Ayra Starr has confirmed that she has moved to New York City, marking a new phase in her rapidly growing global career.

The Afrobeats artist shared this information during a recent video interview, where she discussed adjusting to life in the city and noted its surprising familiarity.

When asked if she lives in New York, she smiled and replied, “I do,” mentioning that she has been a resident for “less than two months.” She expressed that the move was not a significant change for her due to her frequent visits to the city. “I’m always in New York regardless,” she stated. “I’ve always been in New York. I’m a New Yorker in my spirit.”

Ayra Starr explained that what appeals to her about the city is its resemblance to Lagos, where she grew up and began her music career. “New York reminds me so much of Lagos,” she said, highlighting its energy, pace, and cultural rhythm. “So it feels like home.”

She also pointed out her comfort in the city’s large African community. “There’s a lot of Nigerians here. There’s a huge African diaspora here, so it feels like home,” she noted.

This relocation positions the 23-year-old artist closer to the global music market, particularly as she continues to perform at major U.S. festivals and expand her international presence. Ayra Starr’s move coincides with fellow artist Rema preparing for a major show in Lagos, illustrating how Nigerian musicians are increasingly connecting their home country with the diaspora.
