ASAP Rocky’s issues with the law related to Terell “ASAP Relli” Ephron are far from over. A Harlem rapper acquitted of two gun assault charges just last month is now set to face another court battle.

A Los Angeles judge set a trial date of January 12, 2026, for Ephron’s civil lawsuit against Rocky on January 26, after it had been delayed during the related criminal trial proceedings. The plaintiff is alleging that on November 6, 2021, the rapper allegedly pulled a handgun and fired it during a verbal altercation.

Our plan is to continue pursuing this lawsuit through the courts. A far greater burden of proof is required in a criminal case than in a civil matter, Melissa Mikail, Ephron’s lawyer, pointed out to the court, as reported by Rolling Stone. She reaffirmed that she and her team genuinely believe their assertions have validity, and they plan to fully pursue them through the courts.

It remains to be seen whether the course of ASAP Rocky’s civil lawsuit will diverge from that of his criminal trial.

The civil lawsuit may unfold in a distinct manner compared to the criminal trial. The lower standard of evidence applies to Ephron in this case, requiring only that it be proven that it is more probable than not that Rocky was responsible for the alleged act, a less stringent threshold than the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard that influenced his acquittal on February 18.

It’s also noteworthy that at least one member of the jury remained unconvinced by Rocky’s claim that the gun was a prop. The jury pool consisting of five women and five men included individuals who were sceptical about the disappearance, citing its mysterious nature and the lack of concrete evidence.

Notably, Relli’s credibility suffered a significant setback during the criminal trial — particularly following his admission to deleting text messages — and Rocky’s defense team is likely to leverage that information in countering his claims once more. The outcome will ultimately depend on how the evidence is presented by 2026.
