Afrobeats artist Adekunle Gold has shared an interesting story about Simile, one of the tracks on his new album, Fuji.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the musician mentioned that he actually wrote and recorded Simile for Beyoncé’s 2019 album, The Lion King: The Gift.

Even though Simile did not end up on Beyoncé’s album, Adekunle Gold chose to include it on Fuji, giving fans the chance to hear a song that has an unexpected connection to the world. This news has increased excitement for his sixth album, which will come out on October 3, 2025.

Adekunle Gold describes Fuji as his most daring project so far, aiming to bring back and share the traditional Yoruba Fuji sound with a bigger audience. He feels that this genre symbolizes a return to his roots and the main purpose of his music, which is to tell stories.

The album is very personal to him, reflecting on what he has experienced over the past five years. It talks about lost friendships, victories, being a father, and the sadness of losing his dad. He believes this is his “best work so far.”

Fans have already had a preview of what’s to come with songs like Coco Money and Bobo, which both feature Fuji-inspired beats. The album is also expected to include appearances by Fuji icon K1 De Ultimate, as well as international artists like Pharrell Williams and Swae Lee.

By mixing traditional Nigerian sounds with modern music production, Adekunle Gold is stretching the limits of Afrobeats while staying connected to his culture. The story behind Simile adds even more excitement as fans eagerly wait for the release of Fuji.
