Kandi Burruss Gets Emotional Over Songwriters Hall of Fame Nomination

Kandi Burruss expressed that discovering her nomination for the 2027 Songwriters Hall of Fame was the most exciting news she had received in a long time. On Thursday (Nov. 5), the Xscape singer shared an emotional video on Instagram, celebrating this recognition and reflecting on her experiences over the past year.

She noted, “There have been many rumors about me this past year, which have been quite burdensome, but I have continued to move forward. I often say, ‘I’m not even worried about it. I’m not stressed,’ but this has confirmed for me that regardless of external opinions or situations, what is meant for you will still occur.”

This announcement follows a difficult year for the singer-songwriter, as she finalized her divorce from Todd Tucker in March. In the lead-up to and after their settlement, the former couple made several public comments, including Burruss revealing details from his film, ‘Til Divorce Do Us Part.

Burruss emphasized the significance of this moment, stating, “I wanted to capture this moment because it won’t be announced for a few weeks, but I wanted to share my joy. It might seem unusual that I’m emotional, but my tears are from happiness. I’m thrilled to be recognized among individuals I hold in high regard. This means a great deal to me.”

She also extended her gratitude to those who recommended her for the honor, mentioning in her caption that the recognition greatly uplifted her spirits.

In addition to Burruss, nominees for the 2027 Songwriters Hall of Fame include will.i.am, Maurice Starr, and the duo Stargate, known for their work on songs like Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” The list of performing songwriters features notable names such as Ne-Yo, Lady Gaga, P!nk, Shakira, Sia, and Melle Mel. Voting members have until midnight ET on Dec. 14 to submit their votes, with each member permitted to select up to three nominees in each category.
