Album: Govozile – Icala lobunsizwa

Govozile’s latest album, “Icala lobunsizwa,” marks a significant addition to his professional career.

As fans of Govozile since his 2022 release of the 15-track album “Siyongena K’valiwe,” we have noted considerable growth in his style and approach to Maskandi music. He has successfully blended traditional elements with modern influences, resulting in a distinct and engaging take on Maskandi.

With his refreshed sound, Govozile continues to produce impressive music. Last year, he released “Umgcagco,” a 12-track album that featured popular songs such as “Khwela Kuwe” and “Iminyango Evaliwe” with contributions from Sne Ntuli. Nearly a year later, he has released his fifth studio album, “Icala Lobunsizwa,” showcasing a more emotive and vocal-centric sound that reflects his artistic development.

The tracks on this album were primarily produced by Zinza Zekhwapha, with co-production from Thuthani Ndlovu. Most engineering was managed by Evans Smith, while Gebhu played lead guitar, Zwane provided bass guitar, and Jayjay Mbuthuma contributed on keyboards. Govozile Khumalo performed all background vocals, and the tracks were recorded at TAKK Studio, with mixing and engineering by Evan Smith.
