This event marked a reunion between Burna Boy and Shakira, who previously collaborated on “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup, during the tournament’s opening ceremony in June. In the days leading up to the final, both artists generated excitement by sharing rehearsal photos and videos with fans.

The rehearsal footage also highlighted the Ugandan dance group, Ghetto Kids, who played a significant role in the halftime show. Shakira explained her choice to feature the young dancers was influenced by a viral video that showcased them performing with improvised instruments despite facing difficult circumstances.

She stated, “A lot of people asked me why I chose children from the slums to dance with me at the World Cup. Two weeks ago, someone uploaded a video online showing these kids dancing with no professional outfits or props, using wooden boards and strings as guitars, caps and wires as microphones, yet they were partying like they were at Coachella.”

The halftime show also included performances by Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, American icon Madonna, and South Korean group BTS, making the World Cup final a worldwide celebration of football, music, and culture.

With Burna Boy representing Nigeria on a major global platform, he added another significant performance to his list of accomplishments, showcasing the growing influence of Afrobeats worldwide.
