Tiwa Savage Discusses Mental Health Concerns In The Entertainment Industry

Afrobeats artist Tiwa Savage has discussed the emotional and mental health challenges artists often face within different record label environments, providing insight into the less favorable aspects of the music industry.

In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast hosted by Joey Akan, she shared her experiences at Mavin Records and how they influenced her perspective on support systems in the industry.

Tiwa Savage noted that she only recognized the extent of the emotional support and community she had at Mavin after transitioning to an international label.

She explained that during her time there, she had a reliable support system to turn to when dealing with public pressures or personal difficulties.

“The label you sign with is very important, and I didn’t realize this until I left Mavin. Whenever there was a controversy online, I would go to Don Jazzy’s room, sit on the floor or bed with other Mavin artists, and we would discuss it. I could cry if needed, and we would navigate through it together. However, being with a foreign label, they don’t typically consider personal issues. I can’t go to the Empire office and cry. I miss that aspect.”

Her remarks underscore the difference between the familial structure she experienced at Mavin Records and the more commercial approach encountered at other labels.

Tiwa Savage’s reflections contribute to ongoing discussions about artist welfare, mental health, and the support systems available in the global music industry.
