The rising singer shared her views during a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, discussing her values, career decisions, and the realities of the Nigerian music industry.

Qing Madi mentioned that her choice to maintain financial privacy stems from a wish not to be categorized solely by financial means or material wealth. She aims for her art—not her financial status—to influence how others view her.

While gaining financial independence has allowed her creative freedom in music, she acknowledged the occasional pressure to meet audience expectations.

“Sometimes I might fall victim to consumerism, because I’m like, at the end of the day, they like this one, so it’s fine. But it doesn’t mean that I’m going to reduce the quality of what I make to fit what people desire,”

she stated.

The artist also pointed out the significant disparity between artist earnings and the income of the average Nigerian worker, likening music earnings to “drug money” due to their remarkable nature.

“You see someone working a nine-to-five earning maybe ₦500,000, and then an artist performs at one show and earns about ₦20 million. It’s like, whoa,”

she noted.

Additionally, Qing Madi addressed the emotional significance of music, describing it as a vital source of support for many Nigerians in a society with limited access to mental health resources.

“I believe the reason Nigeria loves music so much is that we don’t have therapists. It’s an escape… Even when people are sad or depressed, they don’t take a break. So when they hear someone else telling their story, it resonates,”

she explained.
