How God Brought Humility In 2020 – Asake

Afrobeats artist Asake has shared insights about one of the challenging periods in his life, identifying the year 2020 as a significant turning point that altered his path.

In a recent interview with Korty EO, he recounted the unexpected difficulties he faced during that time, which left him feeling as though he had lost something that seemed hopeful.

“2020 was a serious year. Life humbled me a lot. You know when God gives you something enjoyable and then takes it away?”

“That was the experience in 2020. At that moment, I didn’t realize that God was preparing me. I didn’t see it coming. Then, God gave me, ‘Me I no dey cap, me I no dey form,’ and then He took it back.”

Asake explained that what initially felt like a setback ultimately became the basis for his eventual success, as the experience reshaped his perspective and readied him for the achievements that followed.

In addition to discussing his challenges, he also addressed his long-term aspiration to expand his music career beyond Nigeria. He mentioned that even before gaining fame, he envisioned a future in the United States, specifically in California.

“Before I traveled, Los Angeles was a place I liked. Even when I was with my friends, I told them that I was going to leave this country and go to California.”

“So, I didn’t overthink it. When I arrived in California, I felt like, bro, I will be here. Let me just pursue my dream,”

he added.

Now recognized as a global star, Asake’s reflections underscore how periods of uncertainty can lead to progress, illustrating his journey from struggle to international acclaim.
