Nigerian musician Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat founder Fela Kuti, has urged the government to take decisive measures against pastors who he claims conduct ‘staged’ miracles.

In a live video, Seun Kuti stated that some pastors make unverified claims of miraculous healings. He believes these deceptive actions should be legally addressed, asserting that pastors found faking miracles should face imprisonment.

Kuti suggested that a law should be established to prohibit all claims of performed miracles, stipulating that anyone making such claims should be jailed unless the miracle can be verified at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). He proposed that miracles should be conducted for ten individuals at LUTH, emphasizing that he seeks to eliminate fraudulent miracle claims, particularly noting that genuine miracles should result in tangible healing, such as restoring full vision to someone without eyeballs.

He argued for accountability, stating that those unable to deliver on miracle claims should face significant penalties, including a potential fifty-year prison sentence.

Kuti’s comments have sparked renewed discussions about accountability among religious leaders in Nigeria, leading to widespread discourse on social media regarding the role of faith leaders and the necessity for verification of miraculous assertions.
