Ayra Starr Addresses Nigerian Men

Nigerian Afropop artist Ayra Starr has expressed favorable views about Nigerian men, despite experiencing criticism from some online recently.

During a recent appearance on Way Up with Angela Yee, the singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, compared Nigerian men to those from New York while discussing relationships and cultural attitudes.

The 23-year-old artist stated that Nigerian men can be very supportive partners, particularly in caring for the women in their lives. She remarked that their confidence and approach to relationships remind her of men in New York.

“Nigerian men love to take care of their women. They are very supportive of their wife or girlfriend. They are very very confident, so it is almost the same thing as New York men. But you know, men are men. A man is a man still. It is a universal thing,” she mentioned.

Ayra Starr’s remarks come at a time when she has faced significant online criticism regarding her fashion choices and public image. Yet, she appears to maintain a balanced perspective, recognizing both her concerns and the positive aspects she associates with Nigerian men.

The emerging Afrobeats star continues to gain international recognition while remaining a prominent voice in Nigeria’s music scene.
