Nigerian producer and music executive Osabuohien Osaretin, known as Sarz, has discussed the ongoing infrastructure issues in Nigeria, stating that he has never experienced continuous electricity in the country.

In a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, the 36-year-old beatmaker emphasized how unreliable power supply affects the creative industry, particularly music production.

“I was born and raised in this country and I have never experienced electricity for 24 hours,”

Sarz mentioned, reflecting a common challenge faced by many Nigerian creatives.

He explained that inspiration can come at unpredictable times, but a lack of stable electricity makes it difficult to turn ideas into completed work.

“There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and I want to create music, but there is no light. Sometimes, even when you want to buy fuel, they will tell you there is a strike or scarcity. And then you end up doing nothing and the potential just wastes,”

he noted.

For Sarz, creativity relies on both mental readiness and available resources. He pointed out that the lack of reliable infrastructure affects artists and producers who depend on studio equipment and electricity to perform their work.

“As a creative person, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. So, when the infrastructure is lacking at the moment you are mentally charged, it is a challenge,”

he stated.

The producer’s insights highlight a broader issue within Nigeria’s creative economy, illustrating how systemic problems continue to affect even the country’s most recognized talents.
