Nigerian music artist Mavo has received significant recognition as Billboard’s African Rookie of the Month, positioning him among the continent’s notable emerging talents.

At 22 years old, singer and rapper Oseremen Ukanigbe Marvin has attracted global interest with his blend of Afrobeats, rap, and his own styles, which he refers to as Burbur Music and Bizzylingua. Billboard’s acknowledgment underscores the rising prominence of his music and the success he has achieved in a relatively brief period.

Mavo began his musical journey while studying medicine in Ekpoma, Edo State. He started recording in his campus room and released his debut project, Ukanigbe, in late 2023, marking the beginning of his professional career. His popularity increased rapidly following the viral success of Escaladizzy, a collaboration that performed well on social media and gained millions of streams, introducing him to a broader audience seeking innovative sounds.

His appeal stems from his authentic storytelling, memorable melodies, and a growing array of unique slang, contributing to a strong following among younger listeners who resonate with his genuine expression.

Mavo has shared that his music reflects his true experiences. “My music is my real story,” he noted. “So when people vibe with it, they’re really connecting with who I am.”
