The Nigerian rap scene was engulfed in controversy over the weekend, following a heated social media post from rising rapper Odumodublvck in which he publicly lashed out at hip-hop icon M.I Abaga.

The Abuja-born rapper, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, November 1, 2025, stating that he had lost all respect for M.I and expressed his disapproval in strong, inflammatory language.

Odumodublvck tagged M.I Abaga directly in a series of posts, writing: “.@MI_Abaga as for you. Everyone will be astonished that I’m speaking to you in this manner, and I’m aware that they’ll come after me because you excel at portraying the ‘good’ guy. One thing they failed to mention is that I am indifferent to public opinion, unlike you.

He then accused M.I of opting for neutrality in a conflict that included a “blatant lie,” alleging the veteran rapper chose to “sit on the fence” to safeguard his carefully crafted image. Odumodublvck concluded his outburst with a barrage of insults, labelling M.I a “short man devil” and “rat,” before asserting, “You aren’t my OG.” I’m certain you won’t respond because I’m stating the truth.

A sudden and explosive reaction rapidly took over social media, with supporters and fellow musicians weighing in on both sides. Some people have condemned Odumodublvck for disrespecting a man who is widely seen as a leading figure in the development of modern Nigerian hip-hop, but others have come to his defence, arguing that his remarks reveal underlying concerns within the music industry about issues of power and genuineness.

Award-winning rapper M.I Abaga, co-founder of Chocolate City, has thus far kept quiet about the issue. His final public comments about younger artists were made in July 2025, in which he stated that he felt “no intimidation from the new generation” and challenged them to match his longevity and impact in the studio. It’s ironic that M.I had earlier commended Odumodublvck’s ascension, referring to him as “a strong voice for Nigerian rap.”

The reluctance of M.I’s camp to comment has heightened speculation about whether the experienced rapper will respond, or allow his reputation to speak for itself as the feud deepens divisions among fans across the Nigerian music scene.
