Luigi Mangione’s music selection may catch you off guard. In a letter dated Tuesday, October 28, the man accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson disclosed his prison entertainment choices to one of his backers.

Mangione stated that last week, he downloaded a number of Taylor Swift and Charli xcx tracks onto his tablet, according to a source cited by Us Weekly, who reportedly confirmed the authenticity of the letter. He admitted that he had “never really listened” to either artist before but decided to give them a try once his supposed list of favourite music started circulating online.

“Rather than be a party pooper and correct the facts, I decided to see what all the fuss was about,” Mangione continued. He then remembered listening to Swift’s “Cardigan” when another inmate named “King” asked what song he was playing. He reprimands me for a period of time before replacing all my music. I’m now a fan of Lil Durk.

Mangione included “Dis Ain’t What U Want” by Lil Durk in the bottom left section of his letter. The song was featured on 2013’s Signed to the Streets, a tracklist that also included “Bang Bros” and “52 Bars, Pt. 2.”

Five days following the murder in December 2024, authorities apprehended Mangione at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. He was extradited to New York City later that month and faced four federal charges: first-degree murder and stalking among them. A graduate of the Ivy League, who has become somewhat of a polarizing figure on social media, entered a guilty plea after being arraigned on state charges.

Lil Durk isn’t in a significantly improved position, especially following his detention by U.S. authorities. Marshals will be in action in October 2024. The singer behind the hit “All My Life” is set to face a murder-for-hire trial, which was initially rescheduled and is now slated to start on January 20, 2026. He is accused of giving the order for an attack on Quando Rondo, resulting in the death of Georgia rapper Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson’s cousin.
