Young Thug’s depiction of himself as white on the UY SCUTI cover was, to be frank, quite fascinating. On Sunday, 28 September, the rapper shared the story behind the creative decision on the “It’s Up There Podcast w/Looney.”

“I think it was just some humorous stuff, but it’s still serious enough that I went along with it,” he said. Growing up in his neighborhood, people would often joke and playfully tease Thugger that if he wanted to become the most successful artist, he’d essentially have to change his persona to fit a more mainstream image, often referred to as “going white.”

He clarified that’s why when he released the album cover, he stated, ‘Aye, if you want to be the largest, go blonde.’ “We were just joking around because there are so many big Black people.” I’m part of that group. Young Thug then brought up Michael Jackson as an illustration.

“He brought up the long-standing allegations of skin bleaching surrounding Michael Jackson, saying ‘Michael Jackson went white for this,’ before adding, ‘We know that’s not true’.” To provide context, the late celebrity was diagnosed with vitiligo, a skin condition that progressively removed a significant amount of pigment from his skin.

Young Thug also gave a surprise performance on Sunday outside the Fulton County Courthouse. He revealed the pop-up concert only a few hours before kicking off his “Live From Atlanta” livestream at 4 p.m. ET.

The location chosen made a quite bold statement. The courthouse where Thugger had spent a lot of time fighting his RICO case is now also being used as a stage to promote his new album, UY SCUTI. He walked out to “RIP Big & Mack,” then urged everyone to aim to become lawyers and district attorneys rather than ending up on the defendant’s side.

Young Thug then proceeded to play several other tracks from UY SCUTI, including “Whaddup Jesus,” “Blaming Jesus,” and “Catch Me I’m Falling.” He then performed older crowd-pleasers such as “Digits” and his collaboration with Gunna, “Ski.” Take a look below.
