YFN Lucci – STILL WAITING. ft. Young Thug

Young Thug and YFN Lucci have a lengthy history as two Atlanta-based rappers, but much of that time was marked by a very negative context. Their long-standing feud continued for years, but the RICO charges filed against each of them have altered their perspective. They then decided to put aside their differences and team up against hip-hop division by resolving their conflict and working together for the first time.

The new song “STILL WAITING” from Lucci’s latest album ALREADY LEGEND marks their first collaborative effort. Actually, just one of two. Thugger also included their new collaboration “Whaddup Jesus” on his own new album UY SCUTI, which was released on the same day as YFN LEE’s LP, Friday, September 26.

In particular, the duo shares bars about loyalty, coming out stronger after being in jail, and standing by their communities. The beat sticks largely to their trap roots, but their melodic and emotive performances complement sparse piano keys and chords, ethereal background textures, and crisp drums effectively.

Their contrasting deliveries on the song also contribute to a strong vocal chemistry between the two. We will see whether this leads to more musical collaborations in the future or if they will follow their own paths after releasing their first records following their prison terms.

Regardless of the outcome, it’s complex but still heartening to see this hatchet burial take place. Many people in the hip-hop community and beyond should be able to put their differences aside for the sake of something more significant than their individual interests.
