The Afrobeats Star Extends His Record with the Highest Number of US Certifications
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Balogun Ayodeji, popularly known as Wizkid, has set another record as the Nigerian artist with the most RIAA certifications.
The Grammy-winning singer recently earned another gold certification in the United States after his Starboy-owned record ‘Soco’ sold 500,000 units. Wizkid, who already held seven RIAA certifications both as a lead artiste and a featured artiste with songs like Essence (4x platinum), Come Closer (platinum), and One Dance (11x platinum), has now added more achievements to his name.
Soco, which features Ceeza Milli, Spotless, and Terri, was a massive hit that introduced three promising talents to the scene, with Wizkid leading the pack. The song is also certified silver in the UK and gold in France & Canada. With this latest RIAA gold certification, Wizkid extends his lead to eight US certifications.
Other Nigerian artists like Burna Boy also boast four certifications (two platinum and two gold)—three as a lead artiste and one as a featured artiste on tracks like Ye, Last Last, On the Low, and Location.
Nigerian songstress Tems is also in the mix with four certifications (three platinum and one gold), two as a lead artiste and two as a featured artiste. Artistes like Davido, Rema, Ckay, and others have also earned RIAA certifications.
