It’s hardly surprising that A$AP Rocky is a thoughtful and insightful interview subject. In a comprehensive cover story published in ELLE magazine on Wednesday (Sept. 24), a Harlem-based individual discussed a variety of subjects including acting versus rapping, the status of A$AP Mob’s breakup, managing a household with Rihanna, and other topics.

Renowned journalist Clover Hope led the discussion, and a talkative Pretty Flacko responded thoughtfully to the questions posed to him. Whether fans accept some of his responses will be open to interpretation. There are several key points he made that are worth examining in greater detail.

A$AP Rocky Discusses His Experience with Therapy

A$AP Rocky anticipated that discussing therapy might lead to a negative reaction. “He said his outlook on therapy was so pessimistic that it wasn’t even humorous.” “I’m risking being discredited, but I categorize therapists alongside other forms of psychic readings.” He noted that he felt a therapist couldn’t possibly relate to his experiences, and he added that he thought JAY-Z could be seen as a black therapist.

It’s worth noting A$AP Rocky didn’t appear to rule out the possibility of consulting a therapist. JAY-Z has publicly spoken out about the absurdity of the stigma surrounding therapy.

The collective A$AP Mob has not disbanded.

The TESTING artist was potentially facing years in prison after a former friend and A$AP Mob member, A$AP Relli, accused him of felony assault in open court, leading many to believe the Harlem group was disbanded. The “Peso” rapper disputes this notion. I’m not lying. “This isn’t a politically correct response,” he said. Anyone who used to be my protégés, my friends, and my musical band partners, and they don’t get along with me, it’s because they refuse to compromise with me. I harbor no ill will towards anyone. I don’t have a reason for that. I’m feeling extremely happy.

It was clear he had more to contribute to the story, but his frustration with his old crew’s current situation was apparent.

Rapping vs. Acting

A$AP Rocky has been a legitimate actor for more than ten years. He’s being deliberate about avoiding being pigeonholed and ensuring that his film work doesn’t disrupt his musical creativity. “I don’t waste any time,” he said. I can’t make music decisions while I’m on tour. I need to be at one location. I need to portray this character. It’s unrealistic to be able to give 100% on everything when I’m being pulled in multiple different directions. In order to follow your calling, you unfortunately have to give up certain things. These films do not pay you a trillion dollars. This is more so what’s meant to be my destiny. I’m a man of the arts.

Notwithstanding all that, his forthcoming album Don’t Be Dumb is still on track, and its recurring postponements might be attributed to his extensive work in the acting field.

Daddy Rocky

It appears the interview took place prior to A$AP Rocky’s third child with Rihanna’s birth on September 13. In the story, he mentioned praying for a girl after already having two boys. Family has been a significant element of his identity for some time now. “We tend not to discuss work excessively because we encounter it every day,” A$AP Rocky said of the “Diamonds” singer. Upon returning home, family is what matters most. The focus is on your relationship. This pertains to your household. It’s not about all that other stuff.
