Wale Commented On Kai Cenat’s Omission From The BET Awards, Saying, “I Was Upset For About Five Days Straight”

Wale has openly expressed his feelings throughout his career, both in his music and during interviews. Recently, he discussed how a viral moment involving Kai Cenat not recognizing him impacted his mental health.

This notable incident took place in June at the BET Awards, where Cenat interacted with Wale and appeared unaware of his identity, even mispronouncing Wale’s name as “Wally.” Later, Wale approached Cenat to share the online reactions to the event, but Cenat dismissed it.

On the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, host Shannon Sharpe inquired why Wale did not show more understanding towards Cenat, given his young age (Cenat recently turned 24).

“I was upset for like five days in a row,” Wale stated, emphasizing the need to be mindful of his words, as Cenat has also spoken about his mental health. “So when he’s talking about mental health at the [Streamer Awards], I’m like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, mental health, you get it now.’”

The incident clearly still resonates with Wale. He expressed, “Imagine dedicating your life to this career, attending an awards show to support the culture you’ve been a part of for 13 years, and then someone who asked you to play a video game tells the audience online, ‘Yeah, yeah, let’s play one day,’ while everyone online is laughing about it. And you’re surrounded by your peers.”

Wale’s sentiments are understandable. While the moment gained attention online, many, including Wale, pointed out that both had participated in a celebrity football game the previous year. He clarified that he did not intend to confront Cenat. Cenat, for his part, later acknowledged his mistake and connected it to his youth, stating on his Twitch stream, “I hope he didn’t take my interaction personal. How can you blame me for just being who I am? I’m young.”

Regardless of accountability, the recognition from both individuals regarding their emotional well-being is significant.
