Usher headlined the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, with Kendrick Lamar next in line. During a broadcast of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Tuesday, February 4, the “Yeah!” singer offered guidance before the Compton MC’s major performance at the Caesars Superdome.
Urging Lamar, who is set to perform on Sunday, February 9, in New Orleans, Usher advised that one key takeaway is to appreciate the moment because striving to deliver the best performance can lead to becoming overly fixated, causing one to overlook the joy in the experience.
He went on to say, “Even if things aren’t flawless [and] don’t unfold precisely as planned, if you’re fixated on achieving perfection, you won’t be able to look up, appreciate the beauty around you, and acknowledge, ‘Hold on, I’m here, I have this opportunity, and I won’t get it again.’ “This moment is not going to be retrievable for me.”
Usher performed a medley of his biggest hits for a crowd of over 129 million viewers during Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. He performed songs like “Nice & Slow,” “U Don’t Have to Call,” “Caught Up,” and “Burn,” and was also joined by special guests including Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., Ludacris, and Lil Jon.
Lamar has kept details about the upcoming performance by the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles low-key, although SZA has been confirmed as a special guest. The 22-time Grammy winner may also incorporate the hit single “Not Like Us” into his performance, following its significant impact in 2024.
My advice to him is to genuinely be fully engaged in the moment. Usher expressed the hope that he would make the most of the opportunity, he said to Hudson. He’s truly an exceptional example of what it means to be a talented artist, and there’s a lot to be admired about his accomplishments.
