South African singer Tyla Laura Seethal, known as Tyla, has sparked discussions online after revealing her top five artists of all time.

The 24-year-old artist from Johannesburg included only one Nigerian musician in her selection, while the other four were international music legends.

This announcement gained attention shortly after Tyla surpassed notable artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr to secure her second Grammy Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards. She won the award for Best African Music Performance during the 68th ceremony, which took place on February 1, 2026, in the United States.

Tyla has made history at the Grammys as the first-ever recipient of the Best African Music Performance category in 2024 with her hit song, Water.

When asked to share her all-time favorites, the Grammy-winning singer named the late Michael Jackson, recognized as the “King of Pop,” as one of her main inspirations.

Following him, she listed global star Rihanna, then pop icon Britney Spears, known as the “Princess of Pop.”

Her fourth choice was Canadian rapper Drake, who is among the most-streamed artists worldwide and a significant presence in the music industry.

Selecting her fifth artist was challenging for Tyla. After some contemplation, she chose Nigerian artist Wizkid.

In explaining her choice, Tyla praised Wizkid’s longevity and cultural significance, emphasizing his role in bringing Afrobeats to a broader audience globally.
