It appears that many people are distancing themselves from Ye, a development that also includes his most regular collaborator, Ty Dolla Sign. The singer behind the hit song “Memories” posted on social media on Wednesday, February 12, to express disapproval of hate speech, which occurred just days following a similar instance by his counterpart.
Ty Dolla Sign expressed disapproval for all kinds of hate speech directed at anyone, accompanying his sentiment with raised fist emojis representing different skin tones. The timing of his statement was a clear reference to Ye, even though he didn’t explicitly mention his name.
The key issue at hand is the timing of this occasion. When Ye was still reeling from the backlash over the “White Lives Matter” T-shirt incident and had been denying the Holocaust, Ty Dolla Sign was one of the initial artists to publicly support him. Their 2023 joint project, “VULTURES”, saw Ye consistently rejecting the accusations that had resulted in significant financial losses for him, specifically the claim of being antisemitic. I engaged in an intimate relationship with a Jewish woman and then treated her similarly to how an athlete would compete in the Olympic Games, after also being intimate with another woman associated with Scooter.
Ty’s post on IG Story is likely due to the fact that standing beside Ye poses a significant business risk, particularly when you don’t have his estimated $2.77 billion net worth to fall back on. The California native’s ability to work smoothly with the “Heartless” rapper through all past conflicts could very well be a deliberate attempt to mitigate potential harm.
A collaboration was released by The Two amid Ye’s latest outburst.
Ty Dolla Sign and Ye also released “Wheels Fall Off” shortly following the controversy surrounding the “Yaydolf Yitler” comments. In addition, VULTURES 3 is scheduled for 2025, representing the third and presumably last release in their album series as ¥$ artists.
It’s not surprising that the project could be delayed once more or cancelled entirely. In the end, his Shopify store and social media profiles were either shadow banned or deactivated in the past week, which does not bode well for the rollout.
Ty Dolla Sign is left with only two options. He needs to disassociate himself from a long-time friend and colleague. The other approach is to create music that’s so compelling, it enables people to put aside everything that has occurred. Both outcomes are conceivable, albeit fraught with risk, following the success of their number-one single “CARNIVAL.” At this stage, if Ty were to sever ties, wouldn’t it be too late to make a difference?
