Travis Scott & GloRilla – SHYNE

Travis Scott GloRilla SHYNE

Travis Scott and GloRilla fans are responding to JACKBOYS 2 with a variety of online reactions, with laughter being a common one. The issue lies with the fact that the SpongeBob Krabby Patty announcer unexpectedly interrupts the chorus of their new song “SHYNE”, which, if it hadn’t happened, would have been one of the project’s standout tracks.

Jokes aside, the roots of these “wobbly, wiggly, woah” vocals can be traced back to the Barrington Levy track “Here I Come.” They’re roughly as loud as the aggressive string-backed beat on here. Bun B and Vybz Kartel precede the “WHERE WAS YOU” creative with some spoken word before it enters menacingly.

In terms of flow, this is fairly typical for Travis Scott, yet the energy is extremely high and he maintains a consistent rhythm throughout. Instrumental embellishments including some piano chords are definitely present here, but that’s until the Memphis female rapper appears on the cut.

GloRilla exudes a great deal of confidence on the mic, and boasts a significantly more impressive verse and flow with lines that are undeniably noteworthy on a second listen. Her more vibrant energy complements La Flame’s subdued vocals perfectly, and they still exude a lot of Southern camaraderie.

At the end of the day, we’re still unsure how to explain the chorus on this track. One of the most enjoyable moments on a contentious project is particularly welcome, and we genuinely wish there were more of those here. We’ll observe how long it takes for the meme to lose its popularity. It will likely wobble and wiggle out of the door as soon as the blue checked items are pulled out.
