Tiwa Savage Addresses Long-Standing Dispute With Seyi Shay

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has finally spoken out about her highly publicized 2021 confrontation with fellow singer Seyi Shay, discussing both the cause of the tension and persistent claims that she secretly tries to deny opportunities for other female musicians.

On the OffAir with Gbemi & Toolz podcast, Tiwa Savage elaborated on her side of the situation, stating that the intense argument at a Lagos salon was triggered by unresolved issues, specifically a “diss track” she contended was directed at her.

“I’m not going to pretend we’re friends in the salon when you’ve made a diss track about me,” she said. That was enormous. The experience was extremely distressing.

Tiwa addressed claims that she sabotages the careers of her female colleagues, such as Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani. Anyone making these accusations was called upon to provide evidence.

“If you’ve heard I blocked someone’s bag, please state their name.” Tiwa suggested they discuss the matter at hand. I’m an outspoken supporter of women’s rights. It makes no difference to me when other women achieve success.

The singer shared a personal story to make her point, recounting how she lost a brand endorsement deal during her pregnancy, a period when Seyi Shay unexpectedly took her place in the campaign.

“After becoming pregnant and giving birth to Jamil, I was removed from a Pepsi commercial because I wasn’t able to recover in time, and Seyi was subsequently cast in the role,” she explained. “So who am I stopping other people’s bags from?”

Tiwa concluded by calling for transparency, requesting that artists identify promoters or individuals responsible for spreading misinformation. The only way to address this issue is for people to speak out against them. She said that nobody wants to.
