Tierra Whack – Tip Toe

World Wide Whack, Tierra Whack’s official debut album, was released in March 2024. The album followed a near-three-year absence, after the release of three EPs in 2021, and the notable Whack World, which was one of the most avant-garde and subversive debut projects to emerge in the 2010s.

Now, she’s returned with “Tip Toe,” her first single for the year 2025. The track will be included on the soundtrack for Him, an upcoming horror movie that is scheduled for release on 19 September. The film is produced by Jordan Peele, along with several others.

The “Tip Toe” soundtrack is fairly straightforward, and it seems like it will serve as the accompaniment to either a montage scene or a particularly tense moment. Whack brings her signature wit (“been on my s**t just like prunes”) and intense rap style to the event. The rhythm is also very powerful. The bass is weighty and an intriguing tension arises from the fact that there’s never a full or proper climax. The sense of confinement is heightened by Tierra Whack’s delivery style.

It may have been quite satisfying to witness Tierra Whack’s return to the music scene in the form of her own album. Any soundtrack appearance for a film expected to be on the same scale as those associated with Peele is likely a good opportunity for a comeback after a year and a half.
