Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has brought back nostalgic memories among his fans after talking about his time in university, where he shared the stage with fellow students who went on to become famous.

Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has given fans a trip down memory lane by revealing that he attended the same university as fellow artists Asake, Fireboy DML, and Superboy Cheque.

A clip from a recent interview that surfaced on Monday, September 22, 2025, featured the rapper reminiscing about their time at Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State, in Nigeria, describing it as a “crazy” experience. He said that they were all on campus simultaneously, completing their degrees and participating in performances together.

The Organisation of African Unity wasn’t a place for that sort of thing, for artists to be performing, you know. We’d only take academics seriously at this school, Blaqbonez said with a laugh. Surprisingly, everyone arrived simultaneously and departed at the same time, after which the school resumed its normal activities.

This revelation has resonated with fans, adding an inspiring layer to the stories of several of Afrobeats’ most renowned artists. Before these artists were selling out arenas and dominating charts, they were students juggling lectures with aspirations of achieving stardom.

Their time at OAU can now be seen as a crucial chapter in the history of Nigerian music, illustrating how a single university campus became a catalyst for some of the genre’s most influential artists. Even global superstars started out as young hopefuls, performing on campus stages before their talents gained widespread recognition.
