The First Trailer For ‘The Smurfs’ Has Been Released, Starring Rihanna As The Character Smurfette, And It Also Hints At New Music From The Singer

Rihanna may not be releasing her album R9 in the near future, however she is set to make a comeback on the big screen on July 18. On February 6, Thursday, the singer from “Diamonds” unveiled a first glimpse of her portrayal of Smurfette in the upcoming animated Smurfs revamp, in which she will also be providing new music for the film’s soundtrack.

The 2 ½-minute trailer for the film, directed by Chris Miller and Matt Landon, began with the Smurfs comically falling from the sky. Smurf Village is always a lively celebration. Rihanna introduced Grouchy, Influencer, and herself before narrating that every Smurf has a job, noting that she fits the title of the “coolest Smurf in the whole village” as a mother of two.

The teaser features a significant segment set to Rihanna’s 2007 chart-topping song “Don’t Stop the Music”, which then transitions into a preview of her rendition of Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is a Place on Earth”. Viewers tuning in to the original music can also look forward to hearing Desi Trill’s “Higher Love,” which is a collaboration with Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Natania, and Subhi.

According to the film’s synopsis, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world after Papa Smurf is mysteriously taken by evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. “With the assistance of their new acquaintances, the Smurfs need to find out what sets their fate so they can rescue the cosmos.”

Rihanna initially discussed providing the voice for the “little blue bada**” at the 2023 CinemaCon event. I’ve found animation to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The Bajan singer commemorated nine years of ANTI in January. The 2016 project included well-liked tracks such as “Love On The Brain,” the Drake-assisted “Work,” “Sex with Me,” and “Consideration,” which featured SZA, who in turn shared a heartfelt message to Rihanna on the album’s anniversary.
