Nigerian singer Tems has discussed her rise to global fame, noting that her current achievements exceed what she envisioned during her time in a regular 9-to-5 job.

During an interactive session with fans on X (formerly Twitter), Tems addressed questions regarding her growth and future aspirations. When asked about her current goals and whether she had fulfilled her pre-fame dreams, she expressed that she looks forward to what is planned for her and acknowledged that she has already surpassed the dreams she held while working a traditional job.

Her reflections resonated with fans, many of whom noted her inspiring journey from being an independent artist in Lagos to becoming a significant figure in contemporary music. Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, transitioned from her job as a digital marketer in 2018 to pursue music professionally, marking a pivotal moment in her career.

Her major breakthrough came in 2020 when she featured on Wizkid’s global hit “Essence,” which later received a remix featuring Justin Bieber and reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. This success introduced her to international audiences and facilitated her rise as a global artist.

In 2023, she became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy Award for her contributions to Future’s hit song “Wait for U.” The following year, she further solidified her impact by winning the newly established Best African Music Performance category at the 65th Grammy Awards for her solo track “Born in the Wild.”
