Tems Demonstrates Her Genuine Interest In Anime By Ranking Her Favorite Characters From ‘Attack On Titan’

Tems is recognized as a Grammy Award winner, an influential alté R&B artist, and a significant cultural figure. In her recent appearance on BBC Radio 1Xtra, she demonstrated her enthusiasm for anime. During the conversation with host Remi Burgz, published on December 8, the Nigerian artist shared her top preferences for characters from “Attack on Titan,” ranking them confidently.

When asked about her status as an anime fan, Tems affirmed her interest. She promptly ranked the core trio of the show — Armin, Eren Yeager, and Mikasa — characters from a narrative centered on humanity’s struggle for survival within enormous protective walls, illustrating her deep familiarity with the series.

She stated, “Armin third … because he’s cool. But, you know… it’s the aura. He doesn’t have that. He’s not there.” She continued with her ranking, noting, “But funny enough, I would put Eren Yeager second… he’s the mastermind. He thought about the end from the beginning … But, I would put Mikasa first because she’s just the realest. She’s so genuine and yeah, maybe I’m biased ’cause I’m a woman, but I just feel she should be on top.”

Additionally, Tems discussed the release of her EP, Love Is A Kingdom, which she launched without prior notice in late November. When queried about her motivations for the release, she expressed, “I was feeling a bit stiff. I was feeling a bit stuck. I wanted to challenge myself, actually.” She explained that the project reflects her personal experiences from the past year that she has since moved past, wanting to share it with her audience before embarking on the next chapter of her journey.

In response to comparisons of her surprise release to that of Beyoncé’s, Tems clarified, “Actually, I’m not [trying to be like Beyoncé], I’m just trying to be human. I just wanna be different, real and authentic. I just want to be able to wake up and do anything, you know?”
