The NAACP is celebrating the achievements of Afrobeats with wins for two of its top artists at the 55th NAACP Image Awards.
On the first night of the 55th NAACP Image Awards, held virtually on March 11th, 2024, Tems secured the award for Outstanding International Song with her hit track Me & U.
This recognition adds to Tems’ growing list of achievements. The song, praised for its smooth vocals and captivating melody, undoubtedly garnered international acclaim almost immediately after its release. Her victory is not only a win for her but also a testament to the thriving Afrobeats scene.
Tems wasn’t the only Nigerian artist to shine at the awards. Fellow musicians Davido and Lojay were recognized for their feature on Chris Brown’s Sensational. They won the Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Contemporary) award.
The NAACP Image Awards honour outstanding achievements and representation of people of colour in film, television, music, and literature. Tems’ win is a significant moment, showcasing the international influence of Afrobeats and the artistry of Nigerian musicians.
