Nigerian music sensation Tems has made history as the first female artist from Nigeria to sell over 10 million copies of a single in the US.

The milestone was officially confirmed to take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, for her feature on the popular song Wait For U featuring Future and Drake. Achieving sales of 10 million units in the United States, a benchmark commonly linked to the esteemed RIAA Diamond certification, highlights Tems’ vast popularity and commercial influence in the world’s biggest music market.

Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, first gained international recognition with the song that began at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022. She became the first African female artist to achieve the number one position on the chart. She has also received a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her performance on Wait For U.

Tems’ remarkable ability is exemplified not only by her achievement but also by the increasing worldwide impact of Afrobeats and African musicians. Since her breakthrough appearance on Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ to her solo projects, such as her highly praised debut album ‘Born in the Wild,’ Tems has consistently evolved into a prominent global music force, establishing new standards for Nigerian musicians internationally.
