Afrobeats is rapidly gaining popularity across Latin America, with Nigerian artists such as Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay at the forefront of this movement.

New data was released by Spotify on Monday, September 22, 2025, highlighting the top five most-streamed Afrobeats artists in the area. Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay took the top three positions, with Burna Boy and Wizkid following closely behind them.

The figures illustrate the rapid expansion of the genre across Latin America. Afrobeats streaming has risen significantly, with a yearly growth of over 180%, and countries such as Brazil have experienced a 500% increase since 2020. Argentina and Mexico are experiencing significant growth, with both countries boasting over 400% more streams over the last five years.

Industry experts attribute this increase to two main factors; the inescapable dance appeal of Afrobeats and savvy cross-continental partnerships. Rema’s global hit “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez is an especially notable case. Ayra Starr achieved a milestone by collaborating with Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro and producer Rvssian on Santana, resulting in the RIAA granting her the first-ever Latin Diamond certification for an Afrobeats artist.

This surge is a key component of Spotify’s Afrobeats: Culture in Motion project, which showcases the genre’s impact extending beyond chart-topping success, encompassing cultural connections. Deeply rooted African influences have already been embedded in Latin American music traditions, making Afrobeats a natural fit in the region.

Albums such as AFROBEAT ALL TIME BEST (25, 24, 23), which include Rema, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, Asake, Tems, and Tyla, exemplify the artists spearheading this global Afrobeats movement.
