Sobzeen & Pale Moloi – Izono ft. Msongi

Sobzeen – iThemba Lami

“This Afro-soul/Amapiano fusion, ‘Izono’, features heartfelt lyricism paired with warm, immersive production, creating a soulful and emotionally complex sound.” Pale Moloi collaborates with Sobzeen to create a soundscape that is both deeply personal and universally relatable, with Msongi’s vocal presence serving as the song’s emotional foundation.

Sobzeen, Zee Nhle, and Casey Ntuli recently appeared on Ngcon’ Ujole Nabo featuring Happy Jazzman.

The title of the track, Izono, which translates to “sins” in isiZulu, suggests a reflective and vulnerable theme. From the first chords, a feeling of quiet contemplation is established through the use of smooth piano melodies, rich bass notes, and a subtle percussive rhythm that allows the vocals to take centre stage. Sobzeen and Pale Moloi’s production approach is deliberately understated, thereby giving the story full prominence.

Msongi gives a captivating performance, blending unbridled emotion with precise melodic control. Her voice conveys a blend of regret, longing, and optimism, closely aligning with the song’s theme of acknowledging past errors and striving for reconciliation or forgiveness. The harmonies in the chorus add a rich, almost hymn-like quality to the track, contrasting with the more personal and informal feel of the verses.
