Skales Discusses His Viral Church Testimony Controversy

Nigerian singer Skales has addressed the backlash following his recent testimony at Harvesters Church. He acknowledged that his initial response to the criticism was hasty and that his message was largely misunderstood.

During his appearance, Skales discussed a significant turning point in his career, highlighting how renewed global interest, sparked by Barcelona’s teenage player Lamine Yamal, revived his 2015 hit “Shake Body.” He expressed gratitude for this unexpected resurgence, as it helped him reconnect with his musical purpose.

His testimony, however, received mixed reactions online, with some critics questioning his presence and message at the church. In response, Skales took to X to clarify his viewpoint, recognizing that his first reaction may not have been well-considered. He stated that after reflecting on the situation, he felt it was necessary to address it again in a more composed manner.

Skales mentioned that serving God is not confined to traditional church settings, emphasizing that believers can fulfill God’s purpose through various paths and professions. He argued that work done outside the church holds equal significance and that creatives across different fields contribute to God’s work through their talents.

He maintained that sharing personal faith experiences should be acceptable, even outside conventional religious environments. Skales asserted that all believers have a role to play and that those who may not occupy traditional church positions do not have a lesser calling, but rather a different assignment. He emphasized that activities outside the pulpit can be significant, pointing out the contributions of musicians, filmmakers, athletes, and educators.

He concluded by expressing that he feels strongly about testifying to what God has done for him and does not regret sharing his faith. He views this as a reflection of his gratitude and belief, and he remains unapologetic about it.
