Simi Discusses The Importance Of Providing Mothers With More Support

Nigerian singer Simi has sparked significant discussion online after sharing her thoughts on pregnancy, childbirth, and the importance of providing mothers with adequate care and support during this time.

The award-winning artist, who is married to fellow musician AG Baby and recently gave birth, addressed a common point made by some men who question why fathers do not receive the same level of attention during pregnancy and labor.

“Some men will say, why is it that when a woman is pregnant or she’s giving birth, nobody asks after the daddy? It’s on sight. Are you listening? How is the daddy? What happened to the daddy?”

she remarked.

Reflecting on her own experiences, Simi emphasized that childbirth should not be a point of comparison or competition.

She explained that the physical and emotional challenges faced by women during this process justify the focus on mothers.

“Oh, I haven’t slept in 24 hours, I haven’t slept in 48 hours… so what? That moment is not your moment, okay? Did your vagina tear? Did they have to sew you? Did they have to stitch you back together?”

she questioned.

Simi further elaborated on the long-term physical sacrifices associated with carrying a child, pointing out the significant demands pregnancy places on a woman’s body.

“Have you been growing a human being in your body, with nutrients depleting from your body every day? Have you been swelling on and off? And that’s an easy pregnancy,”

she noted.

She also acknowledged that many women experience prolonged nausea, medical issues, and pain, recognizing that pregnancy can involve serious health risks, including life-threatening situations.

Rejecting the calls to shift focus to fathers during childbirth, she stated,

“Have you risked your life? Have you had multiple children? Stop asking how’s the daddy? How is the daddy?”

Her direct comments have resonated with many individuals online, initiating conversations about motherhood, empathy, and the challenges women encounter before, during, and after childbirth.
