Russ – Shut Me Up ft. Big Sean

Russ Shut Me Up ft. Big Sean

Russ receives a significant amount of criticism from the hip-hop community, yet the individual is undoubtedly gifted. He’s disproving those critics by releasing his Big Sean collaboration, “Shut Me Up,” over the weekend. The production and the feature both reflect his interpretation of the Detroit sound.

In a post on Instagram, an artist based in Georgia explained the origins of this track, which is quite the story. Russ claims to have been watching a programme on Netflix titled Baby Reindeer when he heard a lovely piece of music in the third episode.

Russ then entered the recording booth, where he began editing and speeding up the audio for “Come Wander With Me” by Bonnie Beecher. Despite his efforts, he was having trouble identifying a suitable drum pattern to incorporate. After being advised to experiment with a Detroit sound (one he had not previously attempted), he developed a smoother interpretation of it.

Russ was not entirely satisfied, so he contacted Helluva, a key figure in the subgenre’s development. Having collaborated with artists such as Tee Grizzley, he was the ideal candidate. The outcome is a harsh and energetic song with some catchphrase-worthy lines, especially in the chorus.

“Man, I’m draining the tank until I can’t go on anymore / Whenever I face a setback, I turn it into a stepping stone.” This song is arguably the most powerful track from the W!LD era, and if you disagree, you’re unlikely to change someone’s opinion.
