Rosalía and The Weeknd reunite on their new collaboration “La Fama.”
The seductive song serves as a cautionary tale about fame as the two trade verses in Spanish.
In the video, helmed by Director X, Rosalía plays “La Fama,” the star of a glamorous yet seedy dinner theatre show, who seduces The Weeknd. But their flirting turns deadly when she ends up stabbing him on stage. She continues the show as he bleeds out, earning a standing ovation from the audience. Danny Trejo also makes a cameo as host of the club.
“I wanted to write, in my own way, a bachata with a little story around ambition,” said Rosalía. “Taking as a reference the lyrics of Ruben Blades or Patti Smith and the songs of Aventura, I ended up writing a story of romance with fame.”
“La Fama” is the first release from Rosalía’s upcoming album, Motomami, which arrives next year. She and The Weeknd previously teamed up on a remix to “Blinding Lights.”
The Weeknd continues to tease his new album. He recently revealed that the follow-up to 2020’s After Hours is “complete.”
