Rich Homie Quan’s Enduring Legacy Is Preserved In A New Exhibit At The Trap Music Museum

Hip Hop is paying tribute to Rich Homie Quan with a recognition befitting his influence on the genre. The late rapper’s career is the focus of an exhibit at Atlanta’s Trap Music Museum, a museum located in the same city where he initially gained musical recognition.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar, also known as Quan, sadly died unexpectedly in September 2024 at the age of 34. The “Type Of Way” rapper was discovered unresponsive at his Atlanta residence. The Fulton County medical examiner determined that his death was due to an accidental drug overdose.

Many people saw Quan as a loved and valued figure, and his untimely death caused deep sadness across the Hip Hop community, affecting both fans and his peers. Hits that helped him become a prominent figure in the trap rap genre in the early 2010s included the triple platinum “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” the DJ Mustard-produced “My N**ga” featuring YG and “Lifestyle” with Rich Gang.

Approximately a year and a bit after his passing, the exhibit at the Trap Music Museum honours his legacy. Quan’s father, Corey Lamar, expressed his feelings, saying he’s ecstatic – though sad it has to be this way – and grateful that he’s being acknowledged, he stated to WGXA at the Trap Music Museum last weekend.

He went on to say that they had a fantastic father-son relationship. Quan wouldn’t make any moves without me, and I wouldn’t make any moves without him.

Many men struggle with a lot of things as Black men, and if they don’t seek help – if they don’t admit they have a problem – this can lead to fatal consequences. My son was in a completely dark area.

The exhibit was one of several weekend activities held in celebration of Quan’s life and career, among them a charity softball game. According to reports, the City of Atlanta has officially recognised Quan with several formal declarations, namely a Rich Homie Quan Day and a Rich In Spirit Day. A posthumous greatest hits album, titled Legacy of Hits, is currently available.

Rest in power, Rich Homie Quan.
