Singer Rethabile Khumalo is getting ready to pay tribute to her late mother, Winnie Khumalo, with a special concert. This event will celebrate what would have been her mother’s 30 years in the music business.

Winnie, who died on January 7 after struggling with health problems, had always wanted to celebrate her three decades in music.

Even though her sudden death stopped those plans, her daughter is committed to making them happen.

When Rethabile visited her mother’s grave recently, she felt inspired to bring this idea to life.

“I talked to her like she was still here with me. I thanked her for everything she did for me and promised to make her proud,” she shared with Sunday World.

“Going to her grave is always touching, but it helps me stay grounded. It makes me feel like she is still looking out for me.”

The artist known for her song Live My Life announced that the concert, called Live Your Life Legacy Concert, is scheduled for October 4 at Soweto Meat Lovers Restaurant & Bar Lounge in Protea Glen.

The lineup will include artists who were important to Winnie and performed with her over the years, such as Sello “Chicco” Twala, DJ Sbu, Trompies, and Nokwazi Dlamini.

“The artists performing are people she loved and admired, and some she has shared the stage with before,” Rethabile explained.

Winnie Khumalo started her career as a young girl and became a popular backing singer for famous artists like Brenda Fassie, Brothers of Peace, and Pure Magic.

For Rethabile, music was always her mom’s passion.

“Music was everything to my mom – it was her way of expressing herself and connecting with others,” she said.

“There couldn’t be a better way to honor her than with a show that keeps her story, voice, and influence alive. This celebration helps us remember her happily, full of life, and not just focus on the sadness of her being gone. ”
