According to a number of sources, popular Nigerian singer Rema‘s forthcoming show in Ethiopia has apparently been cancelled.
On September 9, 2023, the music icon was scheduled to perform in Ethiopia at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Abeba. But, rumour has it that the hotel’s management postponed the performance due to religious considerations.
Rema’s recently released necklace, which featured an image of a church on fire upside down and inverted crosses, led to the cancellation of his show in Ethiopia. According to reports, the musician was charged with practising devil worship.
Reportedly, the Ethiopian people and the hotel responded by cancelling Rema’s performance because the image on his necklace upset the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church.
Recently, a woman from Ethiopia commented about Rema’s postponed concert in her country as a guest on Nigerian media sensation Daddy Freeze’s Instagram live programme.
She claims that a press release was actually issued to that effect since Rema’s jewellery raised questions about his possible demon worship.
Her words are:
“They made a statement, like a press release in Ethiopia about Rema. Yes, you can imagine, it’s a very big deal.
“They’re basically saying he is worshipping the devil because of what he has on his neck. And to be honest, I never thought of it myself. And there’s more to it; to be honest.”
