A 22-year-old Nigerian singer-songwriter known professionally as Ayra Starr, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, is receiving criticism on X (previously known as Twitter) for performing to ‘Pxy Drip,’ a track by Naira Marley, an artist who had previously been deemed unworthy of support.

Naira Marley’s latest track, Pxy Drip, has become a viral sensation on TikTok, with over 404,000 user-created videos currently being shared on the platform. Following the accusations of his alleged involvement in Mohbad’s sudden passing in 2023, the rapper was informally deemed to be no longer wanted by music listeners.

Supporters of X have declared that they will no longer listen to his music, following heavy criticism and accusations that Naira Marley was involved in Mohbad’s death. Before his death, Mohbad, a former artist signed to Marlian Records, had been seeking independence and was in the process of establishing his own record label called Imolenization.

A TikTok video allegedly posted by Ayra Starr, who is signed to Mavin Records, run by Don Jazzy, has been deleted, with Ayra Starr reportedly dancing to Naira Marley’s song. Outrage has been expressed on X by fans, who are strongly disapproving of and unwilling to accept her backing for the contentious musician.

Several fans have shared their thoughts on X.

@TheDamiForeign: “I’m so disappointed in Ayra Starr for listening and promoting Naira Marley’s song. We need to cancel her!😡”

@Remmzor__: Ayra Starr drop album for the girlies, them air am, she turn malians… Life 😔”

@____whitney_: “This Ayra Starr video will expose how everyone is inherently hypocritical and we will always make excuses for our faves 🤣”

@Obeyamark: ”Not only this, btw. During the time the videos were trending that Mohbad was being bullied everywhere. Ayra Starr made a song with Zinoleesky. Objectively speaking, no reason for anyone to think they’re better listening to her and criticise people for listening to Odumodu.”

@47kasz: “You people have been waiting for Ayra Starr to fuck up.. this is a witch hunt I’m shaking rn”
