South African rapper Priddy Ugly has expressed his dissatisfaction with Apple Music’s audio quality on social media.

He proposed that the platform could be compressing or reducing the volume of music uploads.

The rapper expressed his dissatisfaction through a series of tweets, stating: “I’m confused about @AppleMusic’s handling of master recordings, as they seem to be compressing and attenuating them.”

He also clarified that the problem wasn’t confined to his own projects.

I’m not just referring to my music, and I’ve also noticed that several albums I performed on had a slightly low sound quality. I thought that people had not mixed and mastered their music very well. Next, I played my album from my documents folder and streamed it on Apple Music, but the audio levels were significantly reduced.

His comments prompted a reaction from fans, with some agreeing that streaming services frequently alter audio levels, while others proposed a connection to loudness normalisation techniques used to standardise playback across various tracks.
