Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has announced his intention to surrender to authorities after being declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command.

Portable is accused of orchestrating a violent attack on government officials during an enforcement operation in Ota. He recently took to his Instagram Story to express remorse and plea for forgiveness. In his message, he referred to the police as his “friends and family” and attributed his earlier decision to flee to fear.

“Oba Anu, I’m going out today. God, turn my struggles into blessings and advocate for me. I help people, so please send my own helper to me. Ogun State Government, I apologize; my fear caused me to run. Thank God the police are our friends and family. God, forgive me. I trust in you; every disappointment is a blessing,” he wrote.

Despite his appeals, the police remain resolute, insisting that Portable must present himself for an investigation. Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, dismissed rumors that Portable is undergoing psychiatric treatment, reaffirming that he is still wanted in connection with the alleged assault.

Portable will need to come in and surrender. He cannot be in a psychiatric facility at Aro without the police being notified. Everyone knows he is a wanted individual,” Odutola stated.

The warrant for Portable’s arrest follows an incident involving three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—who were reportedly attacked while performing their duties at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State.

While the artist continues to seek mercy, the police are firm that he must comply with legal proceedings.
