Nigerian singer and songwriter Omawumi Megbele has spoken publicly about the pivotal role that renowned music producer Cobhams Asuquo played in the initial stages of her music career.

The singer recounted her meeting with Cobhams in a recent HipTV interview, stating that it marked the start of her professional success following her appearance on Idols West Africa. Cobhams provided her with one of her initial major recording opportunities without hesitation, despite neither of them knowing the outcome.

Omawumi shared that Cobhams gave her one of her first opportunities outside Idols West Africa. He advised me to simply go along with it, and that project ultimately turned out to be a turning point for me.

She revealed that the song they collaborated on resulted in her very first major endorsement contract, which continued for two years. After completing the song, it was subsequently selected by the agency. She served as the brand ambassador for that product for a period of two years.

This partnership also provided her with additional opportunities, including sharing the stage with top acts such as P-Square at four significant concerts held across various cities.

Omawumi commended Cobhams for his creative abilities and guidance, referring to him as a crucial individual who assisted in fine-tuning her music and performance style. “She said Cobhams taught her a lot about delivery and posture.” “He assisted me in grasping how to convey emotion through performance.”

Cobhams’ influence is evident in her reflection, extending beyond production to shape her artistry and confidence as a performer. Omawumi’s narrative is an example of the impact of mentorship and teamwork in Nigeria’s constantly changing music scene.
