NLE Choppa, now known as NLE The Great, claims that his NBA YoungBoy diss track “KO” was inspired by a vivid dream, despite the world not initially supporting him when it was released.

In a Rolling Stone interview published on Monday, 3 November, the Memphis rapper described the “gruesome” vision that inspired the song and initially believed it was a nightmare. He was the one holding a young boy’s head in his hand and bringing it to his father in the dream.

“It resembled raw flesh flapping from a skeleton, with mosquitoes and gnats pesteringly biting at his decaying skin.” It was extremely vivid. The memory of it was extremely clear, and I can recall both the scent and the entire dream.

Upon waking, he confessed confusion about the dream’s meaning, so he prayed, and subsequently, the next steps became clear.

NLE discussed the third verse of “KO,” in which he rapped, “You poison the youth, nothing positive you do / You’re the reason men are beating women, thinking that it’s cute.” The rapper admitted he’s not flawless, but stated that part of the track focused on “raising awareness” and holding YoungBoy “accountable.”

In another part of the interview, NLE stated that he doesn’t harbor any personal animosity towards YoungBoy despite their past. “He expressed a desire to meet that brother in person and collaborate on music, though his enthusiasm was tempered by the brother’s reluctance.” The Cottonwood artist pointed out that he’s not concerned about the situation spiraling out of control, given that “they already had problems” and the Baton Rouge rapper has “more pressing concerns.”

“KO” was the musician’s second release under the moniker NLE The Great, after July’s “Messiah (Devil’s Diss).” The two tracks were influenced by the late Tupac Shakur, and the newer one sampled “Hit ‘Em Up.”
