Veteran Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba or 2Face, has indicated that his interest in politics continues.

He shared this during a recent appearance on The Mic On podcast, hosted by Channels TV journalist Seun Okinbaloye, in a video released on Saturday evening.

When asked if his political ambitions were still active, 2Baba replied affirmatively, connecting his interest to years of civic engagement. He stated,

“It’s definitely alive, but for me, I’ve always been, how do I put it, I dey participate for the thing. For over so many years, I spearheaded a campaign called ‘Vote No Fight’, and we saw some results. At least we didn’t solve the whole problem, but we helped sensitize a lot of people and encouraged cooperation during elections. We need to amplify this more. There needs to be extensive grassroots engagement; it goes a long way. While there are still pockets of violence, it has been greatly reduced, and we hope to continue this trend until we achieve a near-perfect situation.”

The conversation turned more focused when Seun inquired about the possibility of seeing “Senator Innocent Edibia” or “Governor Innocent Edibia” in the near future. The singer chose his words carefully in response.

“I would say let’s keep our fingers crossed on that,”

he said.

Regarding the possibility of contesting in Lagos or Benue, 2Baba revealed his current involvement in governance through a government appointment. “Last year, My Excellency appointed me as Technical Advisor. I respect this role and gladly accepted it. My aim is to contribute to nation-building and state-building. That is where my focus is right now. I have appointed myself as an ambassador for Nigeria everywhere. Even if it’s just 1% of change or contribution to this country, that’s my priority. So, to answer your question, we’ll fit run am.”

Clarifying his political alignment, he mentioned that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but acknowledged that his partner is involved in politics.

“But my woman right now is a politician. Honourable Natasha. She’s doing quite well,”

he noted.

He further commented on her progress, saying,

“She’s good. Moving forward, we will try to do more. They say small, small drops of water make an ocean.”

2Baba’s recent remarks bring back a conversation he first raised years ago. In April 2018, he mentioned to journalists in Lagos that he was preparing to run for political office, emphasizing the need for principled Nigerians to engage in governance.

While he did not specify a position or political platform at that time, he highlighted the importance of patriotic citizens in shaping the country’s future.

More recently, in April 2025, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia appointed him as Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach, a role announced during a visit to the Government House in Makurdi. During this visit, which followed deadly attacks in the state, the governor referred to 2Baba as a worthy ambassador of Benue State and expressed confidence in his capacity to leverage his influence for meaningful development.

As a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 2Baba reiterated his commitment to humanitarian work, particularly in supporting displaced persons through his foundation.
