Mr Real Elaborates On Why He Regrets Collaborating With Idowest On ‘Legbegbe’

Mr Real Idowest

Nigerian singer Mr Real has spoken publicly about his regrets over his breakout hit Legbegbe, saying that having fellow artist Idowest on the track limited both the song’s possibilities and his own professional advancement.

In a recent interview, Mr Real stated that he regretted not releasing the record as a solo effort, as he thought it could have catapulted him into the same echelon as artists like Wizkid and Burna Boy. Regrettably, I made a mistake by including Idowest in that song. I wish I was the only one involved. He expressed that if it were only him, he would be in the same position that Burna Boy and Wizkid are in today.

The singer also revealed that Wizkid had initially expressed a desire to feature on a remix of Legbegbe, yet the collaboration ultimately failed to come to fruition. He blamed the missed opportunity on industry complications supposedly related to D’banj, labelling it a significant setback which could have increased the song’s global influence.

Released in 2017, Legbegbe which featured Idowest rapidly gained widespread popularity as a street anthem across Nigeria, catapulting Mr Real into the spotlight. He argues that choices made during its introduction stopped him from completely benefiting from its success.

D’banj was previously accused by Mr Real of taking advantage of him during their two-year collaboration, with Mr Real stating he did not receive a substantial amount in return. He received just $500 from their partnership, as far as he was concerned.
