Mozzy & YFN Lucci – 23 AND 1

Mozzy YFN Lucci 23 AND 1

Mozzy and YFN Lucci have experienced significant hardship. The first one was involved in a concert shooting about two years ago, whereas the second one spent a lot of time in prison. Through their music, they consistently discover a path forward, a trait demonstrated once more by the frequently collaborative pair in their latest single “23 AND 1.”

Following Lucci’s comeback single “JAN. 31st (my truth)” and the California rapper’s “UNDER OATH” album. On the track “23 AND 1”, both MCs pay a lot of tribute to friends who have passed away and the harsh street conditions they were raised in. Some of their old stories are far from flattering, yet they still nostalgically recalled a time when they weren’t burdened by the pressures of fame.

The two artists have consistent and strong delivery styles, with the Atlanta-based rapper incorporating more melodic and ascending vocal elements in his verse. The beat does not detract from the focus on their performances. Throughout this piece, there are some light snaps, sampled vocals, and light keys, but they never overpower the strong writing.

The music video for “23 AND 1” also highlights the challenges of prison life and broken friendships, linking to the hardships faced by Mozzy and YFN Lucci throughout their lives. This move doesn’t mark a drastic departure from what they’ve done before, but it does hold significant value following Lucci’s release. Most notably, the detailed writing and emphasis on values in this track will have a strong impact on many people.
