Miguel – New Martyrs (Ride 4 U)

Miguel launched a new era last year with his single “Always Time,” which was the first from his upcoming album CAOS due to be released on October 23 this year. We’ve now had another taste of the LP due to the new track “New Martyrs (Ride 4 U)”, which has heightened our excitement for this passionate and lush return.

The beauty of the chord progressions, combined with the solid vocal performances and lyrical intrigue, is also due to the “Sure Thing” singer. A steady drum beat carries a languid rhythm, paired with duelling fuzzy and scorching guitar lines, harmonious background vocals, and hazy synth pads, particularly in the song’s latter half. The beat also becomes more defined and rambunctious at times, contributing to the dynamic changes that heighten the emotional and dramatic impact.

The themes of “New Martyrs (Ride 4 U)” are undeniably reflected in the danger, fearlessness, and companionship suggested by its title. The “Number 9” artist is evoking a fiery relationship and the commitment it entails through imagery of blaring sirens and lawless losses. Overall, this album features a sunburnt sound that translates well into its lyrics, and it will be interesting to see if this is a recurring theme throughout the rest of CAOS.

Miguel’s new collaborations have generated a significant amount of interest in his future plans. He has recently collaborated with j-hope of BTS on the “Sweet Dreams” single, marking a significant crossover to observe.
